Ingredients (6)

500 g flour — self-raising
1 1/2 tsp salt — fine
150 g mature cheddar cheese — cubed
2 cup Buttermilk
125 ml water
ml sunflower — sesame and pumpkin seeds,sprinkle on top

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180°C

In a bowl sift the flour and salt, add the cheddar squares then pour in the buttermilk and mix lightly. If the dough is too firm, add sufficient water to form a soft-yet-firm consistency.

Don’t knead the dough, but mix lightly then shape into a ball and flatten a bit. Cut into sections, using a sharp knife (cut about 1/3 of the way through the dough) and sprinkle with the seeds.

Bake in the oven for an hour, test by inserting a skewer and tapping the bread with your knuckle, if the skewer comes out clean and the bread sounds hollow, then remove from oven.

Leave to cool before serving.
