Ingredients (10)

400.00 ml flour — self-raising
15.00 ml Baking powder
2.00 ml salt
50.00 g butter
50.00 g oat bran
5.00 ml sugar — optional
125.00 g cheddar cheese — diced
1.00 apples — Granny Smith, peeled, cored and cubed
150.00 ml Buttermilk
20.00 ml Buttermilk

Method:

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease a baking sheet and dust it with flour. Shake to remove the excess flour.
Sift the flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture
resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the oat bran and sugar, followed by the diced
cheese and apple and finally the buttermilk. Take care not to overmix the dough. Shape the dough into a ball on a lightly floured surface and roll out until
2-3 cm thick. Cut out scones with a 4-5 cm cookie cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with extra buttermilk and bake for 15 minutes or until well risen and brown. Serve with grated cheese and tomato jam or fruit spread.
