Chana Dal

    chana dal
  • 3
    ml
    turmeric
  • 1
    onion
  • 15
    ml
    finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 2
    whole cloves
  • 3
    cardamom pods
  • 1
    piece cinnamon stick
  • 30
    ml
    ghee or butter
 

Method

Soak lentils for at least 30 minutes, drain and place in a large saucepan.
Cover with water, add turmeric, salt and pepper, boil until soft and drain the water.
Heat butter in a pan, add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and cumin. Cook for 30 seconds, then add onions and fry until brown.

Add cooked lentils, dill, bay leaf, lemon juice and sugar, stir gently and simmer for 20 minutes.
Serve hot with nan bread or cooked rice.
