Canala Manzanas (Cinnamon apples)

    large yellow apples
  • 45
    ml
    raisins, soaked in water until plump
  • 30
    ml
    sultanas, soaked in water until plump
  • 90
    ml
    sugar
  • 250
    ml
    orange juice
  • 6
    whole cinnamon sticks
  • 30
    ml
    butter
 

Method

 
Wash and core apples and place in a buttered 24 cm diameter ovenproof dish. Fill centres with a mixture of raisins and sultanas. Sprinkle with sugar. Pour orange juice over, place 1 cinnamon stick in each apple and dot with butter. Bake at 180 ºC for about 45 minutes, or until apples are tender and deep golden brown. Place on a heated serving dish, pour remaining syrup over and serve.
