    fresh breadcrumbs

    finely chopped onion

  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • SAUCE

    pineapple pieces
  • 250
    ml
    soft brown sugar
  • 90
    ml
    cornflour
  • 500
    ml
    water
  • 160
    ml
    grape vinegar
  • 2
    beef stock cubes
  • 30
    ml
    soy sauce
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1
    red pepper, cut into strips
 

Method

 
Mix all the ingredients for the meatballs and season well with salt and pepper. Shape into medium meatballs (it will make about 27) and fry in a little heated oil or bake in the oven until done. Set aside. Drain the pineapple pieces, reserving the syrup. Combine the brown sugar and cornflour and add the syrup, water, vinegar, stock cubes, and salt and pepper to taste. Stirring continuously, bring to the boil in a large saucepan, reduce the heat and simmer until thick and cooked through. Add the meatballs, pineapple pieces and red pepper strips and simmer until heated through.
