Brussel sprouts with bacon

  • 500
    g
    brussel sprouts, trimmed
  • 5
    ml
    salt
  • 4
    rashers bacon, chopped
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 1
    clove garlic, crushed
  • 1
    slice white bread
  • pinch grated nutmeg
 

Method

20 minutes
 
Cook brussel sprouts in boiling, salted water until tender (about 10 minutes).
Fry bacon in its own fat until crisp. Remove.
Sauté onion and garlic for about five minutes.
Sprinkle over well-drained brussel sprouts with bacon. Place in a vegetable dish.
Add bread cubes to remaining bacon fat in pan and fry until golden.
Top brussel sprouts with croutons. Dust with nutmeg and serve.
