Ingredients (10)

80.00 g lard — or oil
3.00 onions — peeled and chopped
2.00 carrots — peeled and diced
600.00 g rump or sirloin steak — thick
60.00 ml flour
salt and freshly ground black pepper — to taste
celery salt — to taste
250.00 ml beer — dark
15.00 ml sugar
5.00 ml vinegar

Method:

1. Melt half the lard in a pan. Sauté the onions and carrots. Remove from the pan and set aside.
2. Toss the steaks in the flour. Heat the remaining lard and brown the meat on all sides, seasoning with salt and pepper.
3. Spoon the sautéed onions and carrots over the steaks, sprinkle with celery salt and pour over the beer.
4. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add more beer if necessary.
5. Remove the cooked steaks and vegetables from pan and keep warm.
6. Add sugar and vinegar to the pan juices and heat through. Check seasoning and pour over the steaks and vegetables.
7. Serve with potato salad or Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes).

Cooking time 25 minutes
