    margarine
  • 500
    ml
    boiling water
  • 250
    ml
    sugar
  • 500
    g
    brown bread flour
  • 200
    g
    bran
  • 250
    ml
    coconut
  • 30
    ml
    baking powder
  • 5
    ml
    salt
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Spray a black oven pan with non-stick spray. Melt the margarine with 100 ml (2/5 c) of the boiling water. Mix the remaining boiling water and the sugar, stirring well until the sugar has dissolved. Add to the margarine mixture, mixing well. Combine the dry ingredients and add the margarine mixture. Mix well with a wooden spoon. Turn into the prepared oven pan and cut into squares. Bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the heat to 160 ºC (325 ºF) and bake for another 30 minutes or until done. Cool slightly and break into squares. Dry out at 100 ºC (200 ºF). Store in airtight containers. Makes 36 pieces.
