Braaied sardines

Ingredients 3

Serving Change
  • 1
    fresh sardine per person
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice

Fresh sardines cooked on the braai make a delicious appetiser and are also inexpensive. Wipe fresh sardines with a damp cloth, then brush with a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice and braai them over hot coals for 5 to 7 minutes. To make turning the fish easier, insert a halved bamboo skewer into the mouth of each sardine - don't let it pierce the skin or come out the other end - before braaiing. Serve the sardines with fresh white bread and extra lemon juice.
