Ingredients (16)

15.00 ml oil
500.00 g beef — deboned chuck steak, strips
2.00 onions — large, chopped
1.00 green pepper — deseeded and cut into strips
3.00 carrots — scraped and cut into julienne strips
200.00 g spinach — shredded
300.00 g button mushrooms — sliced
1.00 cauliflower — head, broken into florets
410.00 g pineapple chunks — drained (but reserve the syrup)
SWEET 'N SOUR SAUCE
250.00 ml pineapple — tinned, syrup reserved
2.00 ml ginger — ground
15.00 ml soy sauce
30.00 ml vinegar — grape
20.00 ml brown sugar
salt and freshly ground black pepper — to taste
30.00 ml cornflour

Method:

Heat the oil in a wok or heavy-based saucepan. Brown the meat before adding the vegetables in the order indicated in the list of ingredients. Fry each kind of vegetable for a few minutes only as they should still be slightly crisp. Blend all the ingredients for the sauce and add to the meat mixture. Season to taste with salt and black pepper and simmer for about two minutes until the sauce comes to the boil and thickens. Stir every now and then. Serve immediately with rice.
