Ingredients (14)

1.00 onion — large, sliced
2.00 garlic — large cloves, crushed
1.00 green pepper — diced
oil
1.00 kg beef — stewing, cubed
freshly ground black pepper
12.00 ml soy sauce
120.00 g flour — cake
1.00 ml cloves — ground
2.00 ml nutmeg — ground
30.00 g soup powder — white onion
625.00 ml water
125.00 ml milk

Method:

Sauté the onion, garlic and green pepper in a little heated oil until soft. Remove from the pan. Season the beef cubes to taste with black pepper and sprinkle with soy sauce. Blend the cake flour, ground cloves and nutmeg. Roll the beef cubes in the mixture and brown small quantities of the meat at a time in heated oil. Drain most of the oil, and return the onion mixture to the pan. Blend the soup powder with the water and add the milk. Pour the mixture over the beef cubes. Heat, stirring continuously, until the sauce comes to the boil. Reduce the heat, cover partially and simmer until the meat is tender and the gravy has thickened. Season with extra salt and pepper if necessary. Serve with samp and sweet carrots or peas. Serves 6.
