Beef chilli with beer

    olive oil

    onion, peeled and chopped

    cloves garlic, crushed
  • 500

    beef, cubed
  • 30

    fresh oregano
  • 5

    chilli powder
  • 5
    ml
    ground cumin
  • 5
    ml
    ground cinnamon
  • 340
    ml
    beer
  • 3
    chillis, deseeded and chopped
  • 250
    ml
    water
  • 400
    g
    tomatoes, mashed
  • 425
    g
    butterbeans
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • coriander for garnishing
  • tzatziki to serve
 

Method

 
Heat oil in a large saucepan. When it's hot, add onion and garlic, cook for five minutes until golden. Add beef, herbs and spices and cook until beef is well browned. Remove any excess fat from pan. Add beer, chillis, water and tomatoes and cook for about one hour or until beef is tender. Don't let it boil. Add beans and heat through. Add salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with tzatziki. Serves 4.
