Basic mince mixture

    oil

    onion,sliced

    celery stalks, copped
  • 1
    carrot, coarsely grated
  • 700
    g
    lean mince
  • 200
    ml
    beef stock
  • 25
    ml
    tomato paste
  • 1
    ml
    nutmeg
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 15
    ml
    gravy thickener
 

Method

 
Heat the oil in a large pan and sauté the vegetables until soft. Add the mince a little at a time and brown. Blend the beef stock and tomato paste and add to the mince mixture. Reduce the heat and simmer until the liquid has evaporated slightly. Season with nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste. Blend the gravy thickener with a little water and add to the mince mixture. Boil until the sauce thickens. Spoon into an ovenproof dish and top with one of the topping recipes. Serves 4.
