Basic green salad

  • any variety of lettuce, such as butter lettuce and red oak lettuce, rinsed in cold water and patted
  • sprigs watercress, optional
  • English cucumber, sliced
  • onion rings or chopped spring onion
  • few sticks celery, chopped, optional
  • tomato wedges or cherry tomatoes, optional
  • French or spring onion salad dressing


Combine the lettuce leaves, watercress, cucumber slices, onion rings or chopped spring onions, celery and tomato in a pretty glass bowl. Pour the dressing over the salad just before serving or serve separately in a small side dish.
