Like most fruit, pears come in a heap of different varieties. Growing up, I used to have a real aversion to them until I found out why. I was eating the ones that had soft, mushy flesh and a really thick skin (excuse the pun).

I enjoy crunchy, crisp pears as a snack but my favourite way to eat the curvy-shaped Autumn fruit, is to have it with something else of a different flavour. That’s the great thing about pears! They lend themselves to being the perfect partner. A few favourite combinations come to mind - pear + dark chocolate, pear + blue cheese, pear + whisky, pear + ginger, pear + vanilla, pear + almond… the list is endless!
