Ingredients (8)

30 ml butter
180 ml sugar
5 ml vanilla — essence
4 eggs
salt — just a pinch
125 ml flour — self-raising, sifted
750 ml milk
75 ml lemon juice or grape vinegar

Method:

If you don’t have buttermilk make soured milk by adding
lemon juice or vinegar to fresh milk.

1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C. 

2. Cream together the butter and sugar. 

3. Add the vanilla essence, eggs and salt and beat well. 

4. Add the flour, alternating with the soured milk, to the
egg mixture. Mix well. 

5. Spoon the batter into an 
ovenproof dish and bake for 45 minutes or until set.
