Low-carb, high-protein recipes

If you are heading out over the festive season visit our restaurant section for the latest on what's hot and happening.

Whatever side you are on, there is no denying which way the trend is going. A lot of people are cutting carbs from their diet in order to shed some unwanted kilos.

It’s the time of year where we have already slipped into ‘it’s Christmas’ mode with many a party, get together, or braai planned with friends and colleagues.

And unlike the Northern Hemisphere where the festive season is accompanied by snowmen, coats and carols, here in South Africa it’s sandcastles, beach wear and Christmas beetles.

We don’t get to hide under oversized jerseys.

So if you are concerned with keeping things under control leading up to and including the festive season, we have thoughtfully put together some low-carb and high-protein recipes for you to enjoy. This style of eating doesn't mean you have to compromise on taste, so you can enjoy and share them with your friends.

Mushroom crust pizza sound good to you? And these coconut and cashew nut ice-cream bars are actually sugar-free.

At this time of year particularly, it’s about balance. Save your carbs for the extra booze you may be consuming over the next two months. On the nights you don’t have a party or a dinner, shop 'clever' and whip up some of the recipes we have put together for you. Focus on healthy smoothies and detoxing on the days you don't have to indulge.

Let your waistline give itself a good talking to. You gotta stick together over the next 6 weeks. Nobody said the holidays were easy!

We’ll also be with you the whole way with a constant flow of healthy, tasty recipes.

It's not all diet from us, you can also look forward to some amazing festive food and drinks coming to you from Food24. (We’re not total killjoys).

Let’s make it a team effort for a joyful and balanced exit from 2013 into a delicious new year filled with healthy eating habits and happy hearts.

Please share your awesomeness with us on @food24 on Twitter and on our Facebook page.

Happy healthy eating holidays! (On every other day).
