If you’re a fan of reality cooking shows, you'll be pleased to know that the third season MasterChef South Africa is set to air on 21st of August 2014 on Mnet.
Thousands of SA hopefuls cook for the opportunity to battle it out in the MasterChef kitchen in Paarl, eyeballed by some of South Africa's noted foodie gurus as they contend for the title of South Africa’s next MasterChef.
Entrants, all amateurs - lined up for hours with their cooler boxes in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in February and March for the ‘Cold Audition.’ They were required to prepare a cold dish at home, then, within the time limit, present the food with the finishing touches on a white plate to the judges for tasting. All preliminary judges are SACA certified [SACA – South African Chefs Association.]
Based on this dish, contestants were either sent packing, or progressed further to the next phase; interviews with the producers. If a contestant impressed during the interview stage, they were invited to participate in the ‘Hot Audition’ later in February and March.
For the Hot Audition, contestants had a fully equipped kitchen at their disposal. They just had to provide all the ingredients for their dish. Official MasterChef SA judges scrutinised the dishes and preparation.
Contestants who dazzled during the Hot Audition were granted a coveted spot in the MasterChef SA Season 3 Boot Camp.
New to MasterChef SA is Chef Reuben Riffel who will be this season's third judge. We look forward to seeing him alongside Benny Masekwameng. and Pete Goffe-Wood.
