This fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. They are available fresh, canned and puréed. There are many varieties that range in size and flavour. Including plum, baby plum, sun-dried, cherry and vine-ripened tomatoes.
Use: Tomatoes form a basis in many recipes such as soups, stews and curries. They add rich, deep colour to bland- looking dishes and can be used to accompany as well as an ingredient to various dishes like tomato pasta sauce. Small cherry tomatoes are often used in salads and as garnishing. Preserves, chutney, relish, tomato juice and sauce are favourites using tomatoes and are great when stuffed with a filling.
