It's no denying that this is the year of the vegetable! Chefs are giving it true pride of place and taking the time to appreciate their colours, provenance, magical nutritional qualities and versatility.

Food24 is also on the Green Monday bandwagon and you can read all about that here. Basically, the movement challenges you to have a "plant-based day" once a week; devoid of meat or any animal products.

No animal products, you say? In a meat-guzzling country like South Africa, it's not much of a surprise that there is a large degree of prejudice when it comes veganism. The common misconceptions are that vegans are part of some kind of freaky-deaky cult that only eat lentils and cabbages and carrot sticks dipped in hummus.
