Oprah expands her empire by launching new comfort food range of ready-made meals

"O That's Good" is set to hit the shelves in US stores by the end of October.

CAPE TOWN - The talk show queen and TV icon, now 63,  has always been known to advocate healthy living and making healthy food choices, so it is not surprising to see that she has now moved into the food industry and is already making waves.

The line is a collaborative project between Kraft Heinz and Winfrey and 10% of proceeds will be donated to anti-hunger charities. The heat-and-eat meals are said to be under $5 (R64.88) because she wants them to be accessible to the the average person. This stems from her inability to find affordable healthy food growing up. 

Kraft Heinz has stated that the project has nothing to do with Winfrey's Weight Watchers deal, hence the lack of the Weight Watchers sticker on the meal containers. The project follows a successful joint venture between Winfrey and Kraft Heinz earlier this year.

Oprah is said to have wanted to create a healthy comfort food collection that felt true to her diet, and she believes she has achieved just that with this project. Her aim was to bring health and wellness to the refrigerated food aisle, and she has done so with the line which currently has 4 traditional side dishes and soups, all with a variety of healthy twists to them.

Circulating media statements have revealed the following about the food line; "the sides include mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, 3 cheese pasta and creamy Parmesan pasta. The potato dishes includes twist of cauliflower, while the three cheese pasta includes butternut squash and the creamy pasta includes white beans. The soups cost just under $5 (R64.88) and include favourites like baked potato, tomato basil, butternut squash and broccoli Cheddar. The healthy twists include cauliflower in baked potato, carrots and celery in tomato basil, butternut squash in broccoli Cheddar and sweet potatoes and carrots in the butternut squash."



There is still no confirmation about whether or not the line will be shipped to other continents, primarily because the media mogul wants the food to be fresh when the food is eaten and shipping would take a few weeks at the least to reach places like South Africa. We will wait and see, but for now, we are envious!
