As if Gordon Ramsay didn't have enough under his belt already, he launched a new TV show called Culinary Genius this year. The show offers less swearing and more schooling, giving practical guidance to amateur cooks and us at home. The idea is that nine cooks get a short training from a top chef each episode, thereafter competing against each other to be crowned the Culinary Genius of the episode.

Ramsay featured in the first five episodes of the series. He is no stranger to big TV productions, with his most notable appearances in Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef (US) and Hotel Hell, his ranting and foul mouth being a railcard for many viewers. But this new show seems a little toned down, with Ramsay sharing is wealth of knowledge.

Ramsay demonstrates two tasks each episode, which is followed by the nine cooks competing against each other, while the weakest are dropped from the show.

So far we've only seen clips of the show, as it is yet to air on South African screens, but the iTV production will hopefully come to the iTV Choice channel on DSTV in the not too distant future.

The show is really beneficial for learning those basic cooking techniques that so many of us think we have down, but when watching Ramsay, you'll soon realise just how much fine tuning you could use.

For instance, ever wondered how to avoid covering your wooden chopping board in green smears from chopping herbs? Well Ramsey can help you...it's all in the knife, and gentle handling.

And you may think you know how to make scrambled eggs, but let's face it... Gordon Ramsay knows best. In the following video, you'll see him using a pot instead of a pan, with no whisking taking place.

And finally, how to julienne peppers, which looks very breezy indeed:

Culinary Genius first aired in April and so far has released twenty episodes concluding the first season.
