Steaz Green Tea Soda now in South Africa

American beverage company Steaz recently introduced their Green Tea Soda to the South African market.

Fully organic, every bottle of Steaz contains one cup of micro-brewed Ceylon green tea, infused with natural flavours ranging from Key Lime to Raspberry to Ginger Ale. No preservatives and colourants are added, allowing the green tea's health properties to work at their full capacity.

For over 4 000 years, the Chinese have been using green tea for its extensive medicinal properties. Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols which are powerful anti-oxidants. Certain polyphenols have been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer, lower LDL cholesterol levels, inhibit the formation of blood clots, improve tooth decay and even assist with weight loss.

We asked some of the Food24 team to review three of the Steaz flavours available in South Africa

Grape (review my Nurahn Ryklief)
Let me start by saying that I do not like grape flavoured drinks, whether it is fizzy or plain. My initial thoughts before I drank it were " Why did I have to get grape, why not apple?"

I asked my husband to help me out since he's more fond of grape flavoured drinks. He first commented on the funky appearance of the bottle and then had a sip followed by another two. He liked the taste and did not mind the little fizz.

My turn, I took a little sip and surprisingly I liked it (not being a fan of grape-flavoured drinks). I liked that the flavour was not overpowering or too subtle either while the fizz gave this smooth drink a bit of a kick.

Lemon Dew (review Ilze Dreyer)
I've always been a big fan of lemon based soft drinks however it is always difficult to find something that's not too sweet or too fizzy. The Lemon Dew flavour was refreshing, the taste wasn't too sweet or overpowering while the 'beer bottle' packing will definitely make it stand out on the shelves as an alternative to other soft drinks.

Diet Black Cherry (Review by Edson Zandamela)
I liked the aroma that reminded me of 50 cent berry sweets. However being a diet drink, I found the taste was too chemically based. But I'll definitely recommend to my girlfriend when she goes on a diet again.

Steaz Green Tea Soda is available in selected Pick 'n Pays, Spars and independent outlets.
