Celebrate summer with Food24 and Oktoberfest and win a great prize!

What better way to celebrate the onset of summer than to drink copious amounts of beer. Well, look no further for a fabulous excuse because it's October… and beer + October = Oktoberfest.

You don’t have to jump into your lederhosen and hop on a plane to Munich (although the real thing is all kinds of AWESOME – I have got that particular t-shirt) because right here at home with, let’s face it, much better beer weather (insert big smug grin here), there will be loads of celebrating going on.

Cape Town
Here, the place that springs to mind is the Paulaner Bräuhaus. This is as close to Munich as you are going to get, ladies and gents. All year round this award-winning Waterfront restaurant serves bratwurst and beers and all things German.

But from the 16 October – 1 November they really take it up a notch. A Bavarian Oktoberfest band will open the festival on Friday 16th October with live Umpah music and a contemporary bands will perform for the rest of the festival.

With dishes like Knuspriger Jungschweine Braten mit Semmelknödel und Krautsalat (Bavarian Roast Pork with bread dumplings and cabbage salad… of course) and Wurstauswahl mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelpuree (Selection of Grilled Bavarian sausages with Wholegrain Mustard Mash) to wash down with your beer – there really is every reason to celebrate.

The Mother City is not the only place celebrating Bavarian merriment – Outer Limits Restaurant and Bar in Jozi are hostng a party on the 22nd and 23rd October with a beer garden, authentic Umpah band and traditional games. From 12pm, no cover charge.

So come on the rest of SA, please let us know where you’ll be celebrating and we’ll add it to our events page!

Let's get this party started.

In the spirit of celebration Food24 and Paulaner Bräuhaus are giving a lucky winner a BIG beer prize of a R500 voucher to dine at Paulaner Bräuhaus, all you have to do is email us your best summer beer memory.

Send that to us pronto and we will pick a lucky winner in time to enjoy the festivities.
