    maize meal
  • 125
    g
    butter
  • 3
    eggs, beaten
  • 75
    g
    cake flour
  • 50
    ml
    sugar (optional)
  • 20
    ml
    baking powder
  • 10
    ml
    mixed dried herbs or fresh chopped parsley and chives
  • 1
    green pepper, finely chopped
  • 4
    small carrots, grated
  • 25
    ml
    finely chopped onion
  • 12
    ml
    mustard powder
  • 10
    ml
    salt
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Method

 
1. Preheat oven to 200 ºC. Grease a 20 x 15 cm bread pan and line the base with greaseproof paper. 2. Bring milk to the boil and pour over the maize meal. Add the butter and beat well. Allow to cool completely. 3. Add the beaten eggs to the cooled mixture, mixing well. 4. Add the remaining ingredients and mix. 5. Place dough in prepared pan and bake in preheated oven for 40 to 55 minutes until golden brown.

Carving meat
Always allow your roast to rest for 5 to 15 minutes before carving so that the juices can be reabsorbed and the meat presents an even surface when sliced. Use a short- or long-bladed knife, and a two-pronged carving fork with a guard. To prevent the meat from losing juice, steady it with the flat of the fork, rather than piercing.
