Royale Eatery 's Reviews

Entered restaurant with a friend and thought the ambience was great. Greeted by a pretty but grumpy waitress. Placed our drink order. Cocktails arrived and tasted watered down. We ordered our burgers with sweet potato chips. The food arrived and our chips tasted like it had been fried in oil from July. The 'patty' was dry and not done rare like we asked. The bun tasted like it was put in the microwave because it was not soft but very 'chewy'. When I asked the waitress whether she could heat my burger up because my patty was cold she rolled her eyes, pursed her lips, took my plate and stomped off not saying anything. All in all a very average restaurant with waiters with attitude. I believe all the hype created around this restaurant is simply because they have; a wide, varied menu and they are also the only restaurant in town that claim that burgers are their 'speciality', but they do not really excel in any of their dishes. What about quality rather than quantity?

I find that eating at Royale is like getting this fantastic wrapped present with a dismal gift inside (a pair of socks). The presentation of the burgers is magnificent. Big burger bun big plates. You can choose from three different sides. But unfortunately the pfoof is in the eating. The burgers appear as quick as if you are at Mc donalds. My burger was cold, it lacked any taste, the guacomole was dismal. The roll was falling apart which hints at being stale. The sweet potato chips were burnt and raw. Overall I was dismally disappointed. When I went they were not their usual busy selves. The waitress was pretty, but bored.

A friend took me there for dinner, as this is his local spot and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere, the food, the decor and just everything. Great meal! (PS - Wish there was one in PE)

Awesome spot! Best burgers in the country hands down! My beautiful waitress tells me rumours of a new menu soon. Definitely looking forward to that. Nice work fellas!

Veg-head: You should probably stay at home and eat your soya mince. The veg burgers are amazing! Everything is so fresh and tasty.

The veg-head clearly remains anonymous as he/she does not know what they talking about. Royale has a great selection of veg burgers, salads, and you can pick your pizza toppings (non of this "vegetarian only pizza" like every other restaurant). Keep it up Royale, you cater to the veg-heads far and beyond pretty much every other restaurant on SA.

This place is cool man. Love the burgers, they make the absolute best mojito's in town, the sweet potato fries are best, the burgers are so damn tasty with a variety of toppings. Looking at the menu and thinking about it just makes my mouth water! So much to choose from. I wish I had a big belly so that I can taste everything on there including the pizza! Smiles all round.

The only thing I hate about this place is that it's always full, and you often have to wait for a table, or go somewhere else! I really enjoy the atmosphere - it's always jovial, the staff is friendly, and when they mess up, they will go out of their way to make it up to you. The grandmother will even bring you a glass of wine on the house whether you want it or not! If you go there in winter, make sure you ask them to warm your plates, because the burgers can arrive cold. Tuck into sweet potato fries and one of their red wines by the glass - they always have a great selection and very reasonably priced. Royale is a place where you can feel the buzz of Long Street, surrounded by young trendoids, backpackers and city-sprawling suburbanites. It pulses with positive vibes - a visit to Cape Town is simply not complete without a burger at Royale!

The Royale burgers redefine the meaning of the word 'hamburger'. Giant, overflowing with unusual and delicious ingredients, and accompanied by a choice of divine sweet potato fries, crispy thin fries or potato wedges, this is one meal that's guaranteed to leave you feeling satisfied. YUM.

Fantastic burgers! You can get one with chorizo minced into the patty! And fantastic sweet potato chips... mmmmmm. Service and atmosphere were also great. I would definitely recommend it for anyone's burger fix
