1 Plaka Umhlanga
We are visitors to your country and enjoy the many things you have to offer, including good food and wines! I was amazed to read the review by this Jordan, where he told the lady to leave the country if she's not happy with Plaka. In my country restaurant owners and patrons appreciate any kind of feedback as it keeps them on their toes. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you like eating in the same place that is good and if you like to sample the variety offered by your country that is good. Keep up the good work Food 24.

2 The Roundhouse
Heard a lot about this place so was excited to go and visit, bad service, terrible head waiter who was the only one allowed to take orders and we had to call him over three times. Arrived 8pm didn't get our starters until 9.10pm. R 330 rand for three courses and the chefs ideas are better than his skills. The food was mostly bland and under seasoned. Top it all off they forgot to bill us for three glasses of wine. Its been a while since I came away from a place and felt truly ripped off. Everyone is very polite but this place will not work, lets just say if it wasn't in Camps Bay and it didn't have the overseas market it would have closed by now.

4 Blues Restaurant
What has happened to Blues? I have always been a firm supporter but after my bad experience will not be back. The service is slow and I had to wait over an hour for my main course. The quality of food has gone down and it is not value for money. I guess being in business for over 20 years is beginning to show!

5 John Dory's Fish and Grill (Westcoast Village)
We went there for dinner last Friday. The chips were like cardboard and cold. The tuna steaks totally underdone. The chicken schnitzel was deep fried and too long in the oil. I asked the waiter for cheese and mushroom sauce on the side. The mushroom was very hot, the cheese sauce just came out of the fridge. I would not recommend it to anybody.

7 Salero
Salero... have always just walked past because of negative feedback that I heard from my cousin. So on Saturday I decided to give them a try... It was nothing to write home about but I will definitely go back there because of the waiter who served us. Great guy with a sense of humour and knew how to interact with customers. My baby kinglip was divine and my guests did not really complain bout the food either except my one friend who had a lamb shank and felt that it was not so great.. We did not have desert as there was nothing screaming buy me buy me!! Would I go back to Salero? Most certainly.. Don't know how much the drinks were but they had some really reasonable items on the menu, think I saw a pasta dish for R89.00 so ja not so bad.. because these waterfront restaurants can be over priced.. And if not for anything else one can go for the view. It's awesome.

8 La Strada Ristorante
What a lovely atmosphere and vibe. Food is great! Wine is great and the music just adds to the fantastic air of La Strada (Lester and Tony). Great for families but also cosy enough for a romantic dinner. Noticed a bar area and also a draught tap. So there is something for everyone.

9 Tasca de Belem
Went for the first time last night. I must say I was impressed with the welcoming they gave us. It was really warm. Then came crunch time ... The food. I must be brutally honest here, the food was just not that great especially my cataplana that was supposedly meant to have crayfish, kinglip, mussels and prawns. It was overcooked and I couldn't see most of the goodies drowning in the not so great sauce. Re: dessert, I had Baklava and the pastry for this one was more pastry than phyllo. Now one thing we all moan about, the service.. Waiter was great but he had no after after service, after tipping him a hefty amount he disappeared, and I wanted a glass of H20 but he was no where to be found. Tip: please give customers a knife and fork for Baklava.

10 Browns
I wanted to say a huge thank you to Browns entire team for what turned out to be a fantastic Christmas party/awards evening for us! We have had so many compliments from our team members who all felt that the venue was stunning, the food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I know that you all made Cheryl and Leslie's job so much easier by being so efficient (and patient....with all the last minute changes!) and so accommodating. It was truly a world class experience. My special thanks to Charles who went out of his way to make things flow smoothly and he did it with such a wonderful attitude - he is a gem! We would have no hesitation in recommending Browns to anyone!

11 Mama Roma (Stellenbosch)
After a long day moving house I was very hungry and always wanted to get to Mama Roma. I could already taste a hearty Italian meal after reading the menu. I ordered what they called a "prime steak" in Italian herbs - ooeee my mouth was watering! My girlfriend ordered a calamari and feta pasta. However what the waiter brought out was a completely different story. It was an absolute fact that they have just defrosted my dry, tasteless (no herbs or red wine sauce) steak that was as tough as trying to cut a wet washing cloth. My girlfriend's pasta was ordinary to a dry tasteless experience. Luckily we had the red wine to keep our spirits high.

12 Saigon (Cape Town)
Service very poor, management lacking, food was great, but its a pity that the night was not what we planned. I would not recommend it to anybody who has expectations of what a restaurant should offer!

13 Maestro's on the Beach
The food at Maestros is average. It used to be excellent before they changed management or owners over a year ago. Their stir fries are served with plain rice not basmati or jasmine as one would usual expect. They have a selection of unappealing fridge deserts and not much more. I went with some friends where they ordered veal and were served pork. One pizza arrived ten minutes after everyone else's food arrived. Two martinis ordered had the salt inside the drink and not on the rim. The stuffed calamari used to be delicious (filling: chicken and feta) but they degraded the quality as I could not distinguish what the filling actually was. To top this, at the end of the evening two of us paid for the meal on two credit cards and the full amount was charged to both cards. We received no apology from the manager who tried to justify every mistake made that evening.

14 Rodizio (Fourways)
Had our function there and what a place - wow - the food, the service, the entertainment, the vibe. James was our waiter and he was absolutely great. The Rodizio meats is a must, hey guys! For the vegetarians - excellent, huge plate of food. Really enjoyed every minute.

15 Paranga
Having been in the customer service industry for the short period of my life I'm very observant of how I'm treated in restaurants. And I must say at Paranga I was made to feel important which is how every customer should leave an establishment feeling. Our waiter was very friendly, not over familiar just the right dosage of warmth for us.. The manager/hostes , oh what an amazing lady I forgot her name but she looked after the customers attentively even when one of the waiters ignored me when I called her, the hostess saw this and came over to our table to ask what we wanted. I was well impressed. The food was amazing, the tuna was perfect and the service was excellent. Recommend you guys to all my friends. Keep up the good work and keep on improving.

16 Pepenero
I really loved this place and went back again and again... The food is amazing, I used to hate beef but they served me a beef fillet with avocado and I was converted to beef on that day! Service is excellent from the hostess to the barman. The waiters are attentive and you don't spend a huge part of the night trying to find your waiter coz they are always in sight when you need them. Not hovering over you but just there to serve you. Oh and they gave me my bill on time.. I'm very fussy about this. When I ask for my bill it's because I might have a plane to catch so if it comes after ten years I get a bit cheesed off... The place is clean , ambiance. All their dishes just don't disappoint. I think they have the best Norwegian Salmon..

17 Ninadeli
Having worked for these guys as a waitress, I know exactly how much effort goes into preparing those mouth watering meals!! There came a point where I could not eat at other places without comparing to Nina's as a result my friends dubbed me a food critic or restaurant critic whatever you wanna call it! This place rocks and I also moved to Cape Town and I must say we do need a Nina's here too. I will call Elester the owner and find out if he's keen on this. Great food, excellent customer service and prices not too high. The desserts.. My God, so out of this world.. Big up to Mamtshawe if she's still there for the chocolate cake, brownie oh the baked cheese cake!

18 Nambitha Eatery
This place is awesome if you are looking for that home away from home feeling. The food is great but the service is not so wow.. A little training is definitely needed for the waiters. Nice relaxed atmosphere.. Really cool place. Will definitely go back

19 Mzoli's Place
Wow.. Big up to Mzoli for creating an environment like this.. The meat is great, well prepared and tender and I'm sure most people know that the secret is in the sauce.. Their prices are reasonable as well you don't leave feeling ripped off. Great value for money. The service from the owner is excellent, here's a guy who knows how to look after his customers. I love the feeling I get when I'm here, the fact that I can come dressed in which ever way I'm in the mood for. Takes too long to get the food, this can be improved. All in all an awesome place.

Lord Prawn Bryanston remains our first choice for special occasions. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared and the service tops.
