Chocolate Italian dessert
Ingredients
350 g
chocolate sponge cake, thinly sliced
125 ml
brandy or sherry
125 ml
orange juice
150 g
dark or milk chocolate
500 ml
whipped cream
50 g
blanched almonds
50 g
hazelnuts, toasted and coarsely chopped
chocolate and nuts to decorate
Method:
Place 1 slice of cake each in base of 6 sundae glasses. Mix brandy and orange juice and sprinkle a little over each cake slice.
Melt 75 g chocolate and fold into 250 ml (1 cup) whipped cream to make chocolate cream.
Chop remaining chocolate coarsely and stir in remaining cream. Add nuts to make nut cream.
Spread a layer of chocolate cream over cake layers in glasses. Top with another slice of cake and sprinkle with more brandy and orange juice.
Cover with nut cream and another cake layer, and sprinkle with remaining brandy and juice. Top with remaining chocolate cream and a dollop of nut cream.
Decorate with chopped chocolate and nuts.
