Question:
Suitable Substitutues for Gluten containing foods
I would like to know which foods and edible products can I buy that don't contain gluten, what substitutes for foods that do contain gluten can be bought. Thank you very much.
- Bhawesh Sukha
Answer:
Janet Steer says:
Gluten is the protein that is found in a number of grains including wheat, barley and rye. Some people with coeliac disease are also sensitive to oats. Naturally gluten-free cereals include rice flour, tapioca flour, potato flour, cornflour, cornmeal/polenta, soya flour, gram flour, teff flour and buckwheat flour. You need to start reading food ingredient labels very carefully.

Some products do say 'gluten free', but on most products, you need to know and be able to identify those foods that contain gluten. Depending on the severity of your sensitivity to gluten, I would suggest that you do more research on this subject. Remember that you can always contact the food/product manufacturers themselves for clarification on ingredient content.
