Hartenberg’s manor house has flung open its doors to welcome everyone to enjoy the beautiful garden and heritage of the beautiful estate.
As summer gently descends on the Stellenbosch Winelands, the lush lawns of Hartenberg Wine Estate are ready for long, inviting al fresco lunches.
Picnics
Imagine chilled wine and picnic baskets filled to the brim with local culinary delights, much in the way of the rural French concept of Repas a la ferme. For the energetic a round or two of boules are the order of the day.
Hartenberg’s kitchen bakes farm bread perfect for Eleanor’s famous snoek pâté as well as the beetroot and cumin dip. The terrine, a rich combination of lamb, pork and chicken studded with pistachios and accompanying relish are lovingly made by hand, while the salads are dressed in a neighbour’s olive oil.
Eco-friendly food
As a flag bearer for conservation and sustainable farming, Hartenberg’s philosophy of protecting the environment is evident in every aspect of the estate, and the summer picnics are no exception. In addition to sourcing local ingredients as far as possible to minimise their carbon footprint, completely biodegradable containers are used and made into compost to feed the vines.
The new picnic menu includes a half bottle of a selection Hartenberg’s wines or local grape juice. Children have their own menu and a fun play area to keep them entertained.
As an alternative to the picnics, Hartenberg’s black board menu offers of daily dishes to complement the wonderful wines of Cellarmaster Carl Schultz and his team.
