Cathy Marston - wine expert

Cathy hails from Yorkshire, England – an area better known for its beer than its wine.

Following a degree in English Literature at Cambridge University and the obligatory stint of backpacking round the world, she ended up as marketing manager for a boutique wine merchant in the East of England.
During her time there, she successfully passed all her exams with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust up to and including Diploma level.

She and husband Kevin came to South Africa in 2001 and were immediately surprised by the poor choice of wine in restaurants and bars. They opened The Nose Restaurant & Wine Bar in 2003 and quickly developed a reputation for championing smaller producers, boutique cellars and garagiste winemakers. During their time at The Nose, they ran an incredibly successful wine course which Cathy estimates has taught more than 1,000 customers about drinking and enjoying wine.

Now concentrating on writing and wine education, she, Kevin and their 3-year old son Charlie all enjoy sushi, Sauvignon and Finding Nemo – not necessarily all at the same time.
