QUESTION

hi Caro, I have a 2 year old boy who refused to eat at meal times. The only things he will eat are biscuits/chips and sweets! Things are becoming very stressful and I am worried as he is definitely not getting enough nutrients!

ANSWER

Hi Leanne,

Your toddler has you by the short and curlies! He knows he can get the yummy biscuits and thingl out of you if he doesn't eat when you want him to. It is all about boundaries, refuse to give him one more biscuit, chip or sweet for a while. Do NOT give in! As soon as you give in just once, he's got you again. He will eat when he gets hungry, children will not starve themselves and just let him go a few meals without food (offer it to him of course) and you'll see, he'll soon eat that chicken and mash.
It really works.
Keep the biscuits, chips and sweets for special occasions only as they are high in sugar and salt and are not nutritious at all.
Too much salt and sugar can really put strain on their little livers and kidneys so try to keep them at a minimum.

Good luck and stick to your guns!

Hi

My son will not eat veggies...he ate veggies (butternut, squash, carrots etc, until he was two, now he being 4 years, absolutely refuses to eat it...unless I disguise it or hide it in his food...which of course he is starting to catch up on. Please tell me what I can do to get him to EAT some vegetables. I read somewhere if you keep putting it on their plates, they eventually give it a try and start eating it, but I have had no such luck...please tell me if I am doing something wrong.

thanks in advance.

Hi Leanne, I found that when my 2year old is teething , he does not want to eat, and then he sticks with dry foods like chips and cookies.
In desperate times like these I try to rather give him chips without colourants ang msg. Also plain cookies like Marie biscuits, bran biscuits or digestive biscuits, then I also add formula in his tea.
You can also try to give him dry cereals, he will confuse it as chips.Hang in there our kids tend to go through funny stages.
