My 28 month old daughter is refusing to eat at home. She will eat everything that is given to her at crèche but will not eat dinner during the week and barely during the weekend. She refuses anything I cook/make preferring processed food eg: chicken nuggets, oven chips, noodles and now has started refusing those as well. Although she's not underweight she is slightly built and I'm concerned for her health. Further, not eating dinner is causing her to wake up during the night as she's hungry. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kirsty,This is concerning. Whilst most toddlers are fussy eaters, they will generally eat most of the time and often use meal times as times to kick up a fuss to grab a bit of attention. The fact that she is refusing to eat all food now is definitely worth worrying about and my first suggestion is to seek professional help.It is a concern that you relented in giving her healthy food by giving her junk like chicken nuggets, oven chips and noodles. You are the parent and should decide on the menu. Whilst it is difficult when you have a fussy eater, children do not starve themselves. You need to be strong and not give in by feeding her rubbishy junk food, it is not healthy for her. Also the fact that she does eat at creche leads me to believe that she is vying for your attention by not eating the food at home.Children have few tools with which to make their 'points' with and food is one of them as they are in control of what goes into their mouths. She may also be ill and finds that eating causes her pain in some way. My advice is to keep a very close eye on her and make a diary of her stoels and exactly what she eats and drinks. Take this to your health care professional.Good luck!
