The multi-award-winning flavours of Kentucky whisky Bulleit Bourbon were officially introduced to South Africa by brand ambassador Simtholile Mnisi at a launch event at Hell’s Kitchen in Melville on Friday, October 9.
The evening was relaxed while guests enjoyed cocktails such as Bulleit Mint Juleps, Boilermakers (a shot of Bulleit and 2 Oakes Beer) and Pickled Backs (shot of Bulleit and pickle juice) while snacking on assorted platters including lamb burgers, chicken wings, falafal tacos and crumbed chicken strips.
Hell’s Kitchen is a venue that epitomises 1920s New York glamour, easy jazz and epic rock music, an atmosphere that was enhanced by the pop beats and rock n roll tunes of local DJ Martin Thomas as he entertained the crowd.
“Bulleit Bourbon has such a unique range of flavours, perfect for sipping or for making cocktails, and also as a complement to food. Discerning lovers of whisky are in for a treat. The high rye content of Bulleit Bourbon makes it unlike anything South Africans have tried before,” said Mnisi at the event, where he educated guests about the brand’s history.
Inspired by a recipe created by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit 150 years ago, founder Tom Bulleit has turned this fabled family secret into one of the fastest-growing small batch bourbons in the world.
A true entrepreneur who pursued his dream of whiskey making after a successful law career and time in the US military, Tom Bulleit was in South Africa during the WORLD CLASS Bartender of the Year competition in September where he said: “I founded the Bulleit Distilling Co. in 1987 and have loved every minute of it since.”
“The art of making bourbon runs deep in my family and I’m proud to personally share my ancestor’s recipe with people around the world. When I started the company, I knew that one of the benchmarks of success would be for Bulleit to expand into the African market. It’s amazing to see this goal become a reality.”
Listed as one of the Top 50 US Spirits brands by Wine Enthusiast and has been “Highly Commended” by the World Whiskey Awards, Bulleit Bourbon costs R340 at quality liquor outlets around the country.
