My wife and I tried the tasting menu here and it was a disgrace. Some of the food combinations were disgusting at best, even as far as stomach churning (Warm gingered oyster, carrot, bacon crumbs- yuck!). I am afraid that this restaurant is the culinary equivalent of the Emporer's new clothes- consistently highly rated by the 'experts' and very expensive so the ordinary paying public try desperately to convince themselves that the food is great, when actually it is dreadful. If you are thinking of going there, don't. Go instead to one of the many simpler, cheaper and overall much better restaurants in the area.

We travelled around South Africa, and this was not what we expected. We had the tasting menu and were very disappointed. The chef tried to make it very innovative by experimenting but did not succeed. We had heard so much about this restaurant, but it turned out to be a let down. In Cape Town we went to La colombe and Buitenverwachting which where extremely good and less than half the price of Le Quartier Francais. Go to the other side of the street to Reuben's or Bouillabaisse and get a good meal at 1/5 of the price!
