We've visited Salt, again, in mid February this year. We always had a wonderful time there and good honest food, not the best of service though, but the view and the food made up for it. This time I was outraged! The portions were considerably shrinking, the service was intolerable and unacceptable, no butter with the bread served, had to practically beg in order to get some bread, not even the water was served before being presented with the menu. I'm just surprised how this place still has guest eating there. I work in the industry, management level, and i hate to complain and give a hard time to restaurant staff, but when receiving such a bad service what else can I do? None of the Managers, including the GM - Gidi (thinks very - too much about herself), or the newly appointed chef seemed to mind that the Service is rushed, when we specifically requested more time between courses as we were celebrating an important event in our life. The main course was brought 2 minutes after we finished our soup, which was brought when we were still eating our starter!!!!! As a highlight of the meal, the meat was overcooked, from the rare requested to almost well done, further more, everything on the plate seemed just thrown together with no passion or interest, big disappointment, especially since the food was served cold - although the service was rushed (!!!) and absolutely tasteless, sent it back but haven't been offered other alternatives, just asked for the bill and went away, again, nobody seemed to worry or mind that a guest is walking out of their place. Never really heard of this new "superstar" chef of theirs - JACQUES DE JAGER, and i believe that they should just take back whatever award or accolades he gained (had to google him, to see what he's all about). Too much fuss about nothing. His top 10 rating at the moment doesn't reflect in the quality of his cooking - if he even remembers how to cook anymore...... Salt Restaurant is out of my books for good, and because I'm working in the industry, for a leading hotel of the world, I'll make sure not recommend it to any of my guest. Very very very disappointing, no direction, no vision, just not appealing anymore!

After reading so many reviews I've decided to take my partner for a romantic dinner at SALT.And what a woderful evening we had!Friendly service right from the moment we steped into the restaurant. We were seated at the window table and I must honestly said that you won't be able to find better view in Cape Town. Service was very friendly and professional with great knowledge of wine ond food.Fantastic freshly baked bread which was still warm while served! I highly reccomend mussels and quail as starter. For the main course we had wonderful venison and my partne's favourite- pork belly. We finished with delicious asiette, which was a selection of 5 different desserts.Salt is a perfect combination of style, great food, wonderful service and the most amazing view.We will definitely visit you again!

Unfriendly hostess, good sevice, but very average food. The cloakroom was untidy and dirty, which really put me off. You won't find me rushing back! Great view though.

In Salt's defence...My husband and I are world traveller's who love food and we own our own catering company as well and challenge you to go back for the mussels and the beetroot salad...these two items are the best selling on the menu...so we were told when we ate there and we quite enjoyed it, in fact it was better than the ones that we had at Beluga. And it is so unfair and unfortunate that one unhappy client is putting the reputation of good chefs and staff on the line. ..So I challenge you whoever you might be to please go back...

Lunch 16/8/09 - friendly greeting. Seated promptly at window table with views of the Atlantic. Attentive waitrons with prompt drinks service. The food was rather disappointing...our shared beetroot salad starter (Rocket/beetroot/goats cheese/melon/pine nuts) was not served on rocket but mixed greens. I then ordered the steamed mussels with coriander/lemongrass/garlic/chilli and coconut milk only for it to arrive looking rather yellow containing heaps of tumeric and heaps of salt. No taste of said ingredients. Whats on the menu is not what you get. I returned the dish as it was far too salty. My partner ordered the yellowtail on pesto mash which was in fact not too bad. I replaced my mussels with the quail salad, which was fair but not great for the price. The front of house were extremely apologetic. Its not surprising the restuarant was empty - CHEF YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF WHAT LEAVES YOUR KITCHEN.....will we go back....yes but only for the view

Warm wine, mediocre food experience: How can it be that there are no wine fridges to regulated temperature of the red wines at this establishment? Unreal that a glass of pinot noir is served at 21 degrees. Amazing setting indeed but clueless regards serving a glass of wine at the correct temperature - basics guys, basics!

Sinn's Restaurant "There is something so simply indulgent about Risotto. Yes, health nuts would slate it for it's cheesy, creamy ladenness, but personally, that's all the more reason to revere it (and then pop off to the gym the next day). The Rocket Risotto and Silver Fish I had last night at Sinns, was incredible! The texture of the firm, crisp-skinned fish, paired with the dreamy sanctity of the Risotto, punctuated with beetroot chips and served out in the airy sophistication of Wembly Square- Bellissimo! ..."
