My boyfriend and I had lunch at Beluga for Valentine's Day and I have to say WOW!! The food was awesome, our waiter was knowledgable and friendly and the bill was less than R500 (we both had starters, mains and dessert plus I had a glass of pricey champagne) 10/10, will definitely be back!!

I have just had lunch at Beluga, abundantly mediocre - I would have complained but I was with a client. Beluga has all the trimmings (fancy menu books, swanky interiors) but has forgotten the food. It is such a shame to waste a meal in Cape Town where so many restaurants are spectacular. I had springbok carpaccio which one would have thought hard to mess up, tasted awful, the salad leaves in the Greek salad were not fresh. The slick swarmy waiters and the fancy menu do not compensate.

When my boyfriend told me he had booked our romantic anniversary dinner at beluga, I was not so sure this was a good idea, as the place is always so packed - I would assume the service must be slow! However, much to my delight, a friendly waiter seated us and then went through all the specials and suggested a reasonably priced bottle of wine to cpmpliment our steaks with bearnaise sauce. He had carefully explained the ingredients of bearnaise sauce, which turned out to be just as delicious as it sounded! The steaks were cooked to perfection, the wine was served at the ideal temperature, and we were treated to complimentary white chocolate martinis for dessert. It was wonderful and romantic! Make a reservation and you will not be disappointed.

Haven't been to Beluga for some time, as had a very disappointing experience there some time ago. Tried again last night. Big mistake. Got there about 6.30pm, without a reservation. The place was far from full, so thought we should be okay for a quick bite. When we went up to reception, we obviously interrupted the intense conversation between the two very young girls manning the desk. We were asked if we had a reservation, and then told that the restaurant was fully booked for the evening. In a very snotty offhand arrogant way. No attempt at finding a solution, like we can seat you at the bar, or outside, although it is cold, or we can give you a table, but you must be out by 8. Pathetic. Another thing, the bar was filled with smokers, and a haze of cigarette smoke. What happened to our anti-smoking laws. So we wont be back anytime soon. Because of the arrogant attitude, not because we couldn't get a table. Why don't resterauteurs don't realise the importance of who mans the front desk? Went to La Boheme in Sea Point, and had a great meal. Pork belly and terrific duck. Worth all the raves.

I never wanted to step foot into Beluga because I had always heard it was very pretentious. But on Friday I finally decided to give in and go with a group of friends. All i can say to thier sushi is WOW! it was really amazing and the vibe was good. Athough all the cigarette smoke inside and outside was abit overwhelming (new smoking laws?) it was most enjoyable.

I wrote a great review recently, but the consistency bug seem to have crept into Beluga. I always eat the Kingklip for lunch at the bar and to my horror was informed that is was no longer on the menu, by a French sounding supervisor. Then given Sevruga's "newspaper" minus the inner pages. Then I was informed that there is only pasta specials for lunch, declining that I went for the drink. After about 30 min at the bar one of the managers came over and ask me what we would like to eat, I mentioned that I dont like the new so-called changes to which he replied "what changes" and then informed me the fish is available!!! Come on, keep it consistent please as this is not the Beluga I know.

Sinn's Restaurant "There is something so simply indulgent about Risotto. Yes, health nuts would slate it for it's cheesy, creamy ladenness, but personally, that's all the more reason to revere it (and then pop off to the gym the next day). The Rocket Risotto and Silver Fish I had last night at Sinns, was incredible! The texture of the firm, crisp-skinned fish, paired with the dreamy sanctity of the Risotto, punctuated with beetroot chips and served out in the airy sophistication of Wembly Square- Bellissimo! ..."

Always great food, but unfortunately your enjoyment is pretty much determined by which waiter you get...
