Brewmaster's steak





 
 
 

Ingredients

 
  • 80
    g
    lard or oil
  • 3
    onions, peeled and chopped
  • 2
    carrots, peeled and diced
  • 600
    g
    thick rump or sirloin steaks
  • 60
    ml
    flour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • celery salt to taste
  • 250
    ml
    dark beer
  • 15
    ml
    sugar
  • 5
    ml
    vinegar
 

Method

 
1. Melt half the lard in a pan. Sauté the onions and carrots. Remove from the pan and set aside. 2. Toss the steaks in the flour. Heat the remaining lard and brown the meat on all sides, seasoning with salt and pepper. 3. Spoon the sautéed onions and carrots over the steaks, sprinkle with celery salt and pour over the beer. 4. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add more beer if necessary. 5. Remove the cooked steaks and vegetables from pan and keep warm. 6. Add sugar and vinegar to the pan juices and heat through. Check seasoning and pour over the steaks and vegetables. 7. Serve with potato salad or Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes). Preparation time 5 to 10 minutes Cooking time 25 minutes
